Abstract: Restricted mouth opening is a common complication of oral, maxillofacial, head and neck diseases and their treatments, directly affecting patients' masticatory, swallowing, and speech functions, as well as oral hygiene maintenance. At present, there is still a lack of unified and specific technical standards for assessment and rehabilitation training in China. In order to standardize the clinical assessment and rehabilitation training techniques for restricted mouth opening and promote functional recovery in patients, our team developed the expert consensus on assessment and rehabilitation training for non-neurogenic restricted mouth opening in adults based on the best available evidence-based medicine, integrated with opinions from relevant domestic experts, and through methods such as in-depth interviews, expert correspondence consultations, and expert meetings. This consensus provided standardized recommendations for clinical reference, covering the etiology of non-neurogenic restricted mouth opening in adults, multidisciplinary collaborative management, screening and assessment, rehabilitation training methods, prevention and management of complications, evaluation of rehabilitation training effectiveness, health education, and follow-up.
